I didn’t watch the MTV music awards last night but I do not feel as though I missed much judging by the tweets and online newspaper articles I have read. It would seem there were far too many people taking themselves way too seriously … yet lacking the talent to write the pay cheque.
On that basis I take my hat off to David Monahan – who took everything else off to streak live on air. His motive seems unclear – whether it was a bit of self promotion or planned disruption by MTV …. or whether he was promoting something else – we don’t really know. But no one seemed offended so why not? If it’s a choice of being amused by someone’s over exuberant exhibitionism or Lady Gaga/Justin Bieber…..then bring on the streakers every day.
Sometimes you have a gut feeling that something isn’t right. Gary Barlow’s guts must be getting that feeling that at the moment. I am not a fan of X-Factor…but in previous years I have got ‘into it’ towards the end of the run when the serious contenders are in the show and the idiot candidates have been evicted.
Based on what I saw on Saturday night this show has gone beyond its sell-by date. The over-the-top dramatics for everything from Dermott O’Leary walking on stage to Louis Walsh farting …not to mention the Americanisation (needless whoops and cheers and general pantomime-esque crassness) really has started to look dated. And pathetic.
Channel Four took the brave decision to kill its cash-cow by ending Big Brother. Will ITV have the balls to do the same?
Now I gather Wills’n’Kate have decided on an ‘apartment’ within Kensington Palace for their London base – the former home of Princess Margaret to be exact. My idea of an ‘apartment’ was a flat within a building and I raised an eyebrow that the twenty room property (that I would describe as a masionette or town house) is officially known as an ‘apartment.’ In my ignorance I was tutting about the Americanisation of our language once again. Oh gee. But then I consulted the Oxford English Dictionary and – bugger me – the word ‘apartment’ is of French origin and means ‘a private set of rooms in a very large house.’ So please accept my apologies Wills’n’Kate and I wish you all the best in your ‘apartment’ when it is finished. (apparently it needs all manner of work doing to it)
Have a great evening 🙂
